Los 4 errores más habituales cuando hablamos en inglés
¿Por qué es tan fácil reconocer a un hispanohablante cuando conversa en inglés? ¿Por qué Gloria, el personaje que interpreta Sofía Vergara en la premiada serie Modern Family, habla con un acento tan marcado? La respuesta es muy sencilla: la estructura gramatical, la fonética y, en general, la forma en que un angloparlante se expresa en inglés es muy distinta a la nuestra; pero con dedicación e información adecuada es posible alejarnos de las equivocaciones más comunes, internalizar este nuevo idioma y… ¡pensar en inglés!
Dicen que para poder enfrentar y vencer al enemigo, primero hay que conocerlo en detalle. Nuestro adversario son los repetidos errores de quienes hablamos en español sin establecer las diferencias pertinentes entre ambos; así que decidimos compilarlos y diseccionarlos para poder dilapidarlos de nuestras conversaciones y comunicaciones escritas. Así comienza el conteo de los 5 errores más habituales en inglés de quienes hablan español como lengua madre:
1. Decir “do” cuando debes decir “make”
En una conversación o mientras escribimos un texto en inglés es muy probable que nos invada la duda, pues en español utilizamos “hacer” de forma general. Recuerda que “do” se utiliza para referirnos a situaciones generales y “make” cuando se trata de producir o crear algo.
Ejemplos:
-His wedding ring is made of gold
-I wouldn't like to do that job
2.Olvidar el sujeto
En español cada sujeto tiene su conjugación: yo hablo, ellos hablan, etc. Con lo cual, al momento de elaborar una oración, no es necesario incluir el sujeto pues el verbo conjugado te lo sugiere; sin embargo, en inglés esto no ocurre igual: I talk y they talk, por ejemplo, se conjugan de la misma forma por lo que es necesario señalar quién es el sujeto en el contenido de lo que se dice o escribe.
Ejemplos:
Español: (Yo) Quiero hablar contigo
Inglés: I want to talk to you
3.Usar los adjetivos de forma inadecuada
En español el uso del sustantivo y adjetivo es más abierto, mientras que en inglés el adjetivo se incluye primero y, después, de qué se habla.
Ejemplo:
Español: Ella tiene un temperamento agradable
Inglés: She has a nice temper.
4.La pronunciación
Desde el punto de vista fonético existen muchísimas diferencias, pues en inglés hay más sonidos que en español. Incluso letras mudas en español, como el caso de la letra “h”, tienen un sonido particular en inglés.
No tiene mucho sentido reforzar lo negativo. Así que lo ideal es estar en contacto con series de TV, películas y escuchar programas de radio en inglés que te permitan, de forma natural, incorporar estos nuevos sonidos. ¡Cantar es una gran opción, pues escuchas y repites al mismo tiempo!
